The port has an entrance 1 mile wide with 42 ft. (L.W.O.S.T.) just inside, gradually shoaling to 30 ft. (L.W.Q.S.T.) opposite Gollan's Bay.

Wellington.

The width at the narrowest part of the entrance is over 3,600 ft. and the minimum depth is 48 ft. (L.W.O.S.T.).
